Modelling Support for Early Identification of Safety Requirements: A Preliminary Investigation

چکیده

Demonstrating that System Safety Requirements have been satisfied is the foundation of System Safety Assurance, and these requirements need to be generated from the very first stages of concept development. In later development stages sound models exist against which hazard analysis can be carried out, but models for early stage analysis are somewhat limited. This paper presents an approach to describing the system-to-be in the i* modelling notation, and using its structures and semantics as the system model against which hazard identification and analysis can be carried out. The paper argues why a formal modelling approach is important, presents a set of HAZOPS guidewords for the i* framework and shows the practicality and utility of the i* notations and the guidewords with examples drawn from project case studies.
